Charlie and the Chocolate Factory at the Coterie

Watching The Coterie’s production of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory is a journey in pure imagination and delight! The star of the show is Tanner Rose as Willy Wonka. His playful and energetic performance brings the magic of this story to life.

If you’re familiar with the book by Roald Dahl or movies, you’ll recognize the story. The story follows Charlie Bucket and other children as they find their golden tickets. Charlie, Violet, Augustus, Veruca, and Mike Teavee as they embark on a mesmerizing joyride through a world of pure imagination and sweets. All of my favorite songs, “Candy Man,” “I’ve Got a Golden Ticket,” “Oompa Loompa Song,” and “Pure Imagination,” are featured in the production.

While the actors and singing were phenomenal, the set was particularly memorable. The creativity in showing Mike Teavee’s shrinking to appear inside a TV or Violet literally inflating into a blueberry is impressive! There is so much done on a small stage that mimics the mystery and wonder from the movies.

Charlie and the Chocolate Factory runs through August 4 with both weekday and weekend performances. The 70-minute show is perfect for kids and adults of all ages.

Mom Tips for the Coterie

  • Kids can sit on the floor in front of the stage as long as they stay within the taped boundaries. This allows for some fun actor interactions and perhaps a wink from Willy Wonka himself.
  • The Coterie is selling custom Andre’s chocolate bars at each performance – just check the box office on your way out!
  • Tickets are available online and all you do is give your name to check in. Don’t forget to grab a validation for Crown Center parking.
