Where to Pick Apples in Kansas City

We know fall is on its way when apple picking Kansas City begins! You’ll find our favorites in this list, with many of the orchards opening Labor Day Weekend. Be sure to check their social media accounts for the latest picking reports and weather delays.

Mom Tips Before You Go Apple Picking

  • Confirm how the applies are priced – often it’s a price per bag so be sure to take full advantage and fill to the top!
  • Too pick an apple properly, roll the apple upward and twist it off the branch. It should pop off easily if it’s ready for picking (and eating!)
  • Make a plan for your apples. Do you want apples to eat or apples to bake with? It makes a difference! Check out our tips here.
  • Store your baking apples in the fridge until you’re ready to use them.

Missouri Apple Picking

Johnson Farms Plants and Pumpkins (Belton, Mo.)

A bumper crop of apples including Red and Golden Delicious, Braeburn, Fuji, Granny Smith and Pink Lady from the 5,000 U-Pick apple tree orchard Check their social media for latest picking availability. Picking begins Labor Day weekend for season pass holders.

Alldredge Orchard (Platte City, Mo.)

Get your apples and pumpkins in one spot! Alldredge is open Saturdays and Sundays in September and October for apple picking and weekends in October for pumpkins. The orchard also has a playground, store, bakery and cafe and farm animals. U Pick is not available every weekend; check social media before heading out. Opening day is August 31.

Weston Red Barn (Weston, Mo.)

Beginning Labor Day Weekend, the farm is open 9 a.m. – 5 p.m. daily through the first weekend in November. The U-Pick season for apples begins Labor Day weekend. Pre-picked apples are available in the country store throughout the fall with a variety of kinds to choose from.

KCMC Tip: Admission and parking are free. Just pay for the activities you want to participate in.

Cider Hill Family Orchard (Kansas City, Kan.)

An apple wagon will take you to pick from the orchard’s more than 6,000 apple trees. Once you fill your bags, you can pick out a pumpkin or fish at one of the orchard’s five ponds. Cider Hill apples are already available and pumpkin season begins in October. Closed Mondays.

KCMC Tip: Apples are sold by the bag size not the weight so fill that bag up to the top! Kids bags available for just $8.50.

Gieringers Family Orchard (Edgerton)

U-Pick apples available now through October. Check Facebook for variety availability and picking reports or sign up for their newsletters. Don’t miss their apple cider donuts and strawberry lemonade slushies!
