Kansas City Mom Collective is featuring an organization each month that supports Kansas City families. We hope to introduce you to a new organization and provide ways you can support their mission. To nominate an organization to be featured here, email us.

The Resurrection BookMobile’s mission is to boost literacy rates in students throughout the Kansas City metro area by providing them with free books.

The Story of The BookMobile

The BookMobile was started as a mission of Resurrection, A United Methodist Church. The Resurrection BookMobile serves thousands of Preschool through 6th grade students in the Kansas City metro area.

Resurrection works with its 13 partner schools to identify the individual needs of schools and students and tailors their resources to help fill those gaps, focusing specifically on schools with at least 75% free and reduced lunch recipients.

The BookMobile creates a huge impact in the community. Every year over 60,000 new and gently used books are distributed to students through the Resurrection BookMobile. Last year alone, the BookMobile volunteers invested more than 2,000 hours of their time toward their mission of closing the opportunity gap for children in Kansas City.

Ways to Support The BookMobile

There are many ways that you and your family can support The BookMobile and provide books to children in Kansas City

Host a drive

Businesses, families and schools can participate by hosting a book drive. A challenge they often face is a shortage of gently used children’s books for preschool through sixth-grade students. Would you host a Book Drive at your school? They’ll provide materials to help you be successful and will pick up the books after the drive. Contact Diane Sharber at 419-396-6721 or [email protected] to learn more.

Give your time

If you would like to be part of The BookMobile team that helps put books in the hands of Kansas City children you may sign up to volunteer. To drive The BookMobile you must be 21 years of age with a good driving record. Drivers typically serve for 4-5 hours during regular business hours and occasionally some evenings and weekends and you can serve as often or as little as your schedule allows.

Donate money

If you would like to donate money to The BookMobile and other initiatives in the 13 partner schools you may donate online and mark your donation for “Partner School Support.”

The BookMobile can be found online and on Facebook.
