Charity Spotlight: Sleepyhead Beds

Kansas City Mom Collective is featuring an organization each month that supports Kansas City families. We hope to introduce you to a new organization and provide ways you can support their mission. To nominate an organization to be featured here, email us.

Sleepyhead Beds improves the quality of life by providing redistributed beds and gently used bedding to Kansas City area children and their families in need. They contribute to a healthy environment for our community by sanitizing beds and keeping them out of landfills.

The Story of Sleepyhead Beds

Sleepyhead Beds came to fruition beginning with Monica Thebeau, who was working for Jackson County CASA. One of her clients, a single mother with five children, was at risk of losing custody because she couldn’t provide dedicated sleeping spaces for her kids—a court requirement. Monica sent out an email asking if anyone had beds to donate, and the response was overwhelming. Not only were people eager to donate their gently used beds, but the joy on the children’s faces as they received their very own beds was unforgettable. From this simple act of community kindness, Sleepyhead Beds was born.

How Sleepyhead Beds Helps

Donate

Do you have a gently used bed you’re looking to get out of your home? Donate it to Sleepyhead Beds. They are running especially low on twin beds. In addition, they take donations of gently used sheet sets, blankets, pillowcases and new pillows.

Spread The Word

One of the easiest and most effective ways to help is by spreading awareness. By sharing Sleppyhead Beds’ mission and story within your networks, you can help them reach more families in need and potential donors. Awareness is key to ensuring that no child in Kansas City has to sleep on the floor.

Volunteer

Sleepyhead Beds is a great place to volunteer together as a family. Opportunities include helping in their bedding room, where volunteers sort and organize donated bedding, put sets together by size and color, or neatly shelve pre-bundled donated items. Additionally, families can assist on distribution days when families come to pick up their beds. Volunteers play an essential role in loading mattresses, box springs, and frames and distributing bedding sets and pillows to those in need.

Give The Gift Of  A Good Night’s Sleep

A one-time monetary donation can make a big impact. Just $10 provides four new pillows and your money makes a bigger impact the more you donate. You can make your financial donation at any time online.

Sleepyhead Beds can be found on Facebook and Instagram.
