It’s no secret that Kansas City has an endless list of events and attractions to visit in the fall. While my calendar changes as my kids get older, the one tradition we never skip is a visit to Johnson Farms.
Located in Belton, Mo., we have watched Johnson Farms grow as our kids did. This locally owned farm is the perfect size – all the attractions, but also easily experienced in one day.
Johnson Farms Attractions
Pick Your Own
One of the things we love about Johnson Farms is we get multiple fall experiences in one. You can go apple picking and pumpkin picking of course, but also pick veggies and U-Cut sunflowers and zinnias! Hop on the wagon ride to take you closer to the apples and pumpkins. Wheelbarrows are provided if you have a haul too large to carry.
Corn Maze
Every year Johnson Farms features a new KC-themed design. This year’s corn maze opens 9/17, weather permitting, and features a special Chiefs player! Some might even call him the GOAT! ;-). We can’t think of a better way to celebrate Red Friday.
Corn Pits
This might be my kids’ favorite. We love that there is the giant corn pit as well as a smaller Little Colonel’s Kernal Pit for toddlers with easy access, calmer play and less chance of them disappearing among the corn. Make sure to look up as the small corn pit is in a barn with a full-size helicopter inside.
Pig Races
This is a farm favorite as well, with races on the weekends and sometimes during the week, depending on crowds. Check out the race times when you enter and maybe bet a cup of apple cider on your chosen pig.
Timber Fort
My toddler also enjoyed the new Timber Fort with a play kitchen and food. It was a great way to take a break from the sun and play at a slower speed.
Of course I haven’t even mentioned the jumping pillows, tunnel barn, roller slides, barnyard arcade, bag piglets and goats, Chalk-O-Later bus, the Bounce Barn that is now open and a Vintage Vehicle Village.
Food and Beverage at Johnson Farms
Our family can’t resist the dozen donuts – we choose half pumpkin and half apple cider. Hot dogs, chips, nachos, cookies, and candy are also on the menu if you need something more substantial. To drink, you can choose from hot or cold apple cider or hot chocolate or coffee when the cold weather hits!
Mom Tips
Purchase your tickets online and consider a season pass so you can come back for more. We always love this option because we don’t feel pressured to experience everything in one day when nap time is looming.
Plus, your season pass pays for itself in just three visits. Pick apples, sunflowers, zinnias and pumpkins – the possibilities are endless.
Don’t miss the mums! Johnson Farms grows over 23,000 mums. Yes, you read that right. Get your mums as soon as you can, as they often sell out by the end of the season.
The farm is open 9 a.m. – 7 p.m. Monday through Saturday and 9 a.m. – 5 p.m. on Sundays through October 31. Consider a weekday if you have littles to avoid weekend crowds! Perfect opportunity to use a season pass as a weekday fresh air trip — unlimited
visits all season long during our general admission hours listed above.
