Johnson Farms: The Kansas City Fall Tradition Not to Miss

This post is sponsored by Johnson Farms Plants and Pumpkins.

It’s no secret that Kansas City has an endless list of events and attractions to visit in the fall. While my calendar changes as my kids get older, the one tradition we never skip is a visit to Johnson Farms Plants and Pumpkins.

Located in Belton, Mo., we have watched Johnson Farms grow as our kids did. This locally owned farm is the perfect size – all the attractions but also easily experienced in one day.

Johnson Farms Attractions

Pick Your Own

One of the things we love about Johnson Farms is we get multiple fall experiences in one. You can go apple picking and pumpkin picking of course, but also pick veggies and flowers! Hop on the wagon ride to take you closer to the apples and pumpkins. Wheelbarrows are provided if you have a haul too large to carry.

Corn Maze

This year’s corn maze features a depiction of Chief’s coach Andy Reid! Can’t think of a better way to celebrate Red Friday.

Corn Pits

Johnson Farms corn pitThis might be my kids’ favorite. We love that there is the giant corn pit as well as a smaller Little Colonel’s Kernal Pit for toddlers with easy access, calmer play and less chance of them disappearing among the corn. Make sure to look up as the small corn pit is in a barn with a full-size helicopter inside.

Pig Races

This is a farm favorite as well. Check out the race times for the day when you enter and maybe bet a cup of apple cider on your chosen pig.

Timber Fort

My toddler also enjoyed the new Timber Fort with a play kitchen and food. It was a great way to take a break from the sun and play at a slower speed.

Of course I haven’t even mentioned the jumping pillows, tunnel barn, roller slides, barnyard arcade, bag piglets and goats, Chalk-O-Later bus and so much more.

Food and Beverage at Johnson Farms

Our family can’t resist the a dozen donuts – we choose half pumpkin and half apple cider. Hot dogs, chips, nachos, cookies, and candy are also on the menu if you need something more substantial. To drink, you can choose from hot or cold apple cider or hot chocolate or coffee when the cold weather hits!

Mom Tips

Purchase your tickets online and consider a season pass so you can come back for more. We always love this option because we don’t feel pressured to experience everything in one day when nap time is looming.

Don’t miss the mums! Johnson Farms grows over 23,000 mums. Yes, you read that right. If you sign up for the newsletter, you’ll have access to sales like half price or discounts for Chiefs-colored flowers!

The farm is open 9 a.m. – 6 p.m. through October 31. Consider a weekday if you have littles to avoid weekend crowds!

Sarah McGinnity
Sarah grew up in Manhattan, Kansas (Go Cats!), she moved to Minnesota where she met her husband, Shea. Realizing how much she hated snow in May, she convinced him to move to Kansas City in 2010. Together they have lived in Midtown, Waldo, the Plaza, and now Overland Park. Sarah is mom to 10-year-old, Henry, 7-year-old Clark and 5-year-old Lucy. She has her master’s in urban administration and is passionate about making Kansas City a more equitable and supportive community. In between the crazy, she likes to drink coffee, run, hike, travel as much as possible, and experience all things Kansas City!
