Tips for Attending Live Theater

Attending a live theatrical performance can be an exciting event, especially for first time theatre goers and children! & Juliet is recommended for ages 8 and up. Check out these mom tips and some theatre etiquette to help make your trip a successful one!

Plan Your Visit

To ensure a seamless experience on show night, we highly recommend planning ahead for parking or using ride share services due to extremely limited availability and the current closure of The Barney Allis Plaza Garage.

Valet parking is available on a first come, first served basis and you are strongly encouraged to book a reservation before arriving.

KCMC Mom Tip: You can see what parking spots are available, where they are located and reserve one spot ahead of time via Spot Hero.

It’s also a good idea to eat beforehand, as outside food and beverages are not permitted inside the theatre. There are concessions available for purchase during intermission if the kids are asking for snacks mid-show!

Theatre Attire

When attending a live performance, put your best foot forward! Now is the time to bring out the fancy outfits you’ve bought for special occasions or family pictures that your kids haven’t worn in awhile!

Arrive Early

Plan to arrive at least 30 minutes early to your scheduled performance; even earlier if you are picking up tickets from will call. This will allow you enough time to distribute the tickets, find your seats, and get settled before the performance begins. If you arrive late, sometimes you will be held in the lobby of the theatre until there is a break in the performance before you are allowed into your seats.

Silence Your Phone

Please ensure that all electronic devices are turned off or silenced before entering the theatre. Flash photography is also strictly prohibited, as it can be disruptive and dangerous for the performers.

Be Respectful

As with cell phones going off, speaking during a performance is just as disruptive. Keep all comments until intermission or the end of the performance to allow everyone to enjoy the full show.

Show Your Appreciation

At the appropriate moments during the show, and especially at the end, show your appreciation by applauding the performers. If the performance was particularly outstanding, you might even want to stand and give them a standing ovation! Now sit back, relax and enjoy the show!
