Kindergarten round-up and enrollment for the 2026-2027 school year is just around the corner in Kansas City area school districts. Because school districts have no idea who plans to enroll, you won’t get a postcard in the mail with details about kindergarten enrollment.
We’ve put together a guide with information about local districts including kindergarten round-up dates, how to find your assigned school, and what documents your district requires you bring to enroll. August and the adorable first day of school pictures will be here before you know it!
Mom Pro Tips
- In Kansas, kids MUST be 5 years old by August 31 to enroll in kindergarten. In Missouri the cut-off date is July 31. While kids can wait a year and start school when they are 6, they cannot test in and enroll a year early.
- All area districts now do all-day kindergarten. Half day programs have generally been phased out.
- Some districts have enrollment fees. Reach out to your district to find out what possible fees you can anticipate.
- Make sure you have a certified birth certificate for your child for enrollment.
- Don’t worry if you missed round-up. Reach out to your school district about enrollment procedures. They usually occur over the summer.
