If your family is anything like mine, pizza is a guaranteed crowd-pleaser at mealtime. Kansas City has a TON of options for pizza, including many locally-owned restaurants.
Buffalo State Pizza
There are a couple of locations but my favorite is in downtown Overland Park. It’s the perfect place to grab lunch after shopping at the farmer’s market on Wednesdays and Saturdays! I love that I can share one of their giant slices with my kids and they will cut it into small pieces that are perfect for little hands. They even have pinball and arcade games in the back!
Dewey’s Pizza
Kids love the big window and a bench where they can sit and watch the pizza being made! I love that they are really involved in fundraising for organizations in our area.
Grinder’s Pizza and Grinder’s Stonewall
You can get your pizza fix here with whole New York style pizzas or just a slice or two. Definitely try to visit on a warm day so you can sit outside and the kids can run around in the backyard and play corn hole.
Ikey’s Pizzeria
This is a hidden gem in the Northland that serves NY-style pizza. They will bring pizza dough for the kids to play with, making the wait time go fast!
Imo’s Pizza
If square slices of St. Louis style pizza is your kind of thing, visit one of the two Imo’s locations in the metro to get your fix.
J & S Pizza
You’ll find a delicious cracker style thin crust here as well as arcade games to play while you wait for your pizza! Make sure to check out their specials on Mondays – Thursdays.
Martin City Pizza and Taproom
While not solely a pizzeria (we love their pretzel sticks and the cobb salad!) their pizza is delicious and comes in so many varieties. We get something fancy for the grown-ups and the kids get an 8 inch single topping pizza from the kid’s menu. There are locations in Martin City, Lee’s Summit, Lenexa, and Overland Park.
Minsky’s Pizza
With locations all over the Kansas City metro, each Minsky’s offers something a bit different but many have arcade games and private rooms available for parties. Most locations offer “mini Monday” where you can get a free kids-size cheese pizza if you order a large pizza!
Pizza Shoppe
My kid’s favorite pizza is Pizza Shoppe and they run frequent specials that save us a lot of money. Tuesday Family Nights you get a king-sized single-topping pizza, two salads, and breadsticks for only $19.99. The first Friday of every month they have a special where you can dine-in and buy one king-size pizza and get a second for free! The kids bowl is a great little snack while waiting for pizza: it has cheese, olives, pepperoni, ham, and crackers for only $1.99! There are coupons on their site we always take advantage of too. Many locations offer a private room that is free to reserve for parties and events, perfect when you want to have a pizza party without cleaning your house!
Pizza Shuttle
If you spent any time living in Lawrence or Manhattan you probably know about Pizza Shuttle. They have now have a location in Overland Park at 135th and Quivira. For $5 you can walk in and get a one topping pizza and a drink! Perfect when everyone in your family likes a different kind of pizza! And if you are lucky enough to live close, they even deliver!
Pizza West
This pizza place in western Shawnee offers pinball, a party room and an excellent buffet that is free for kids under 2 and discounted for older kids!
Providence Pizza
With a counter where kids can sit and watch the pizza being made, this is a family favorite in Grandview! They even have homemade root beer on tap that they can serve in a frosty mug!
Spin Pizza
We’ve been big fans of Spin Pizza since they opened and after having kids our love only grew because they can eat free on Sundays! My kids love the mini gelato that comes with their meal!
Stone Canyon Pizza
This local spot has been in the area since 1995 and there are two locations in the Northland serving up pizza as well as fresh salads and pasta dishes. The pride themselves on making their dishes from scratch and using locally sourced ingredients.
Third Coast Pizza
If you’re craving Chicago style deep-dish pizza you’ll find it at Third Coast Pizza in Lenexa. They also have other Chicago favorites like Italian beef sandwiches and Vienna beef hot dogs on the menu.
Waldo Pizza and Summit Pizza
Both offer lunch buffets including a salad bar, and they have arcade games, Trivial Pursuit cards on the table, and a party room. If you have dietary restrictions, they offer gluten and dairy-free options too!
A couple of chain restaurants that are great for families include Pie Five where kids eat free on Sundays and, of course, Papa Murphys with their $3 mini-murph pizzas! (I always pick these up when we have a babysitter!)
Enjoy all the great pizza in Kansas City!
