Pro Tips When Shopping

When shopping for baby clothes it can be easy to be sucked in by the adorable items that seem **SO MUCH** cuter simply due to their incredibly tiny size. To save your pocketbook form exploding remember these two things when purchasing for your upcoming arrival:

  • Prioritize Comfort. For baby clothes, look for soft, breathable fabrics like organic cotton.
  • Shop for Practicality. Onesies with zippers or magnets are game changers. Save the fussy buttons and hard to wear items for special pictures, not everyday wear.
  • Don’t Overbuy. Babies grow quickly, so stick to just a few outfits in newborn sizes. Focus on larger sizes for longer wear.

Where to Find Maternity Clothing

The local market for boutique maternity clothing is disappointingly small. With the exception of the aforementioned Mama and Me Boutique, additional items will have to come from a big box store or online.

You can always check consignment sales or your local Buy Nothing group for discounted and free wardrobes from moms who are done with their collection.

Big Box and Online Maternity Options Worth Exploring

Hatch Collection. Perfect for moms-to-be who want designer inspired maternity pieces.

Monica + Andy. A trusted brand for postpartum essentials!

Motherhood. While they used to have brick and mortar stores, now the majority of their inventory is online. You can, however, find a limited selection at Kohl’s locations.

Old Navy and Gap. Both have affordable basics that you can mix and match to get you through your pregnancy.

Target. They have everything else, of course they have affordable maternity wear as well!

Nuuly and Rent the Runway: These companies had the genius idea to rent out nice clothing at an affordable price. They should be your first stop for a special occasion (think: baby shower, wedding, babymoon, etc).

ThredUp. Provides gently worn maternity clothes at fantastic prices!

Congrats mama, and happy shopping!
