10 KC Spots the Whole Family Will Love, Big Kids and Little Ones Alike

Planning a family outing can be tricky when there’s a noticeable age gap. The big kids want excitement and independence while the little ones need safe, hands-on fun. Pleasing the whole crew feels impossible. These unicorn destinations, however, can be found!

Here are the top 10 spots in Kansas City where everyone: toddlers, tweens, teens, and parents, can all have a blast.

10 KC Spots the Whole Family Will Love

Activate or BRKTHROUGH

At first glance, these two places seem like a teen haven, and they are! What’s great, however, is that our 6 year old also had a blast when we went as a family. While not all games are made for younger ones in terms of intellectual or physical ability, they can definitely (at the very least) participate in the majority of them. The cool atmosphere is appealing to everyone.

  • Go during the weekday to avoid evening teen crowds and receive better pricing.
  • BRKTHROUGH serves food and drinks.

Bowlero

Go bowling, but take it up a notch at Bowlero. The high energy alley has food, drinks and an arcade to keep everyone entertained. It is an activity where all ages can participate in some capacity and have fun doing so!

  • Summer passes are available and a great value for kids who enjoy bowling.
  • Reserve two lanes, one with bumpers for the younger kids and the other for the more experienced bowlers.
  • Find other alleys around the metro worth visiting here.

Creative Culture

Unleash everyone’s creativity at Creative Culture. A wide range of project possibilities make it accessible for most ages. Tweens and teens might enjoy the splatter studio or a workshop while little ones could create their own pottery. The over-the-top milkshakes are the ultimate prize at the end to reward all the efforts!

  • Register ahead for the splatter studio and workshops.
  • Three locations around KC (Westport, Leawood and Liberty).

Great Wolf Lodge

An indoor water park is a great option when the weather is less than ideal. Great Wolf Lodge offers day passes without having to commit to an overnight stay. The older ones in your group might love the lazy river and slides, while the younger ones are safe in the splash playground.

  • Bundle up passes to save.
  • Day pass holders are not allowed to bring in outside food or drink.
  • Lifeguards do a great job at monitoring age and abilities in order to keep everyone safe.

Kansas City Zoo & Aquarium

From the new aquarium and zipline to the penguin exhibit and Stingray Bay, there’s something awe inspiring for every age. Does anyone ever tire of seeing cool animals up close? The answer is no! The Kansas City Zoo & Aquarium is always adding new attractions, animals and habitats. It’s truly one of the most family friendly destinations in the city.

  • Free for kids under two.
  • Tram and train rides make walking easier with little ones.
  • The zipline takes timed reservations for the time being.
  • Wednesdays are discounted for Jackson and Clay County residents.
  • A new giraffe habitat is coming in 2026!

LEGOLAND Discovery Center/SEA LIFE Kansas City Aquarium

If you are planning to visit one, you might as well see both of these exhibits in one day. Little kids are mesmerized by the giant LEGO bricks and mini rides at LEGOLAND, while older kids (elementary age) can build and race cars or try out VR experiences. At SEA LIFE plan to utilize the touch pools and tunnels filled with sharks and stingrays. Don’t forget to hit up the feeding demonstrations.

  • Use combo tickets to save on admissions and for faster entry.
  • Compact and easy to navigate.
  • Great for rainy or hot days

Prehistoric Putt

Putt-putt golf is another universal game of enjoyment, where all ages can participate. While the dinosaurs will engage the little ones (some of which you can climb on), the competition and creative holes will be the draw for tweens and teens.

  • Arcade on site as well.
  • Fill out the waiver online ahead of time to save time.
  • Daytime rates are less expensive than evenings.

Science City at Union Station

Older kids love the hands-on exhibits about engineering, physics, and biology, while little ones can dig for dinosaur bones or build in the Tot Lot. Science City’s outside play area appeals to a wide-range of ages as does the water play area!

  • Free for kids under three.
  • Check for combo tickets with the Planetarium or traveling exhibits.
  • Very stroller friendly with ramps and elevators.
  • Plan to spend a good portion of the day playing and exploring.

Urban Air

It is a popular destination for a reason. There’s a dedicated, safe and barricaded area for toddlers and small children, while older ones can hit up the VR area, trampolines, bumper cars and more.

  • Unlimited Summer Fun Passes save a ton on admission and check in processes.
  • Don’t forget to bring Urban Air branded socks from your previous visits.

Worlds of Fun

Thrill rides for big kids, Snoopy-themed kiddie rides for younger ones, and a day of exhilarating fun for everyone!

  • Kids under three are free.
  • Stroller rentals available.
  • Visit on weekdays to avoid long lines.

Finding attractions that cater to toddlers and teens can feel like searching for a unicorn, but Kansas City delivers in a big way. With the right mix of discovery, action, and accessibility, these top 10 spots help families bond, explore without sacrificing fun for anyone.

Kristin is a Lee’s Summit suburb transplant, after living in the Brookside and Plaza areas for over eight years. Raising three young boys with her husband, Jake, has helped her to embrace the messy, wild side of life where love is expressed in bear hugs and body slams. Professionally, she can be found teaching classes as an adjunct professor in the areas of Business, Marketing and PR. She is able to provide her students with applicable, real-life knowledge as she draws from several years working in the corporate sector. “Free time” (ha!, what's that again?) is spent on an occasional date night to favorite local restaurants, reading blogs on everything from home design to politics, riding her sweet beach cruiser bike and thinking of ways to convince her husband to do yet another home improvement project.
