Pop quiz: how many strips of bacon were used to craft this Sluggerrr bust?

Farmland Bacon Day
In celebration of International Bacon Day (Oh yes, it’s a thing!), Farmland Foods not only constructed this juicy sculpture, but hosted a delicious Bacon Day at the K on Sept. 3 featuring Royals Hall of Fame first baseman (and bacon-lover) Mike Sweeney, who threw out the first pitch.img_7072

“The only thing that makes a Royals game even more exciting to watch is having my favorite foods to snack on while I cheer on the team,” said Mike Sweeney. “It’s no secret that I love bacon almost as much as I love being back at The K.”

Kauffman Stadium was bacon-ized with a photo booth with bacon props, concessions and bacon-themed rally signs.

My 5-year-old son admittedly ate way more popcorn than bacon, but for a kid that doesn’t actually finish many meals, the Farmland hot dog and bacon dip were a hit. You can always check out Farmland’s offering at the Farmland Grill behind section 240 on the Plaza/Field Level along the first base line features specialty hot dogs, friends, pork nachos, pork wings, and the burnt end cheesesteak.Farmland Bacon Day

The highlight our our bacon night though, was meeting Mike Sweeney. Trying not to be THOSE fans, we instead urged our son to go ask Mike if he could have his picture taken with him. He responded with, “Mom, I’m not shy! Heyyyy Mike!” Mike graciously picked up my son, gave him a big “Go Royals” hug. Seriously, the best.

Oh and that Sluggerr bacon head?

2,000 strips of juicy bacon.
