When it comes to fostering a love of reading, it’s never too early to start your baby’s library! Board books are a great way to encourage early literacy, color and shape recognition and create a sweet bedtime routine.

Pajama Time
A pig, a hippo, a moose, and other animals put on pajamas as they get ready for bed. The rhyming text is catchy, and something I actually enjoy reading on a nightly basis. A good one to start the bedtime routine with.
Goodnight Moon
You likely already know this story by heart. There is a simplicity to this classic that helps not only with vocabulary of common objects, but is a peaceful read.
How Do Dinosaurs Say Goodnight
Another favorite series in our house. Follow dinosaur kids as they first make bad choices about how to say goodnight (pout, hide, yell, etc) and then follow the rules and do what’s asked of them. Each page features a different dinosaur. Check out other titles in this series like “How Do Dinosaurs Eat Their Food,” “How Do Dinosaurs Play with Their Friends” and “How Do Dinosaurs Say I Love You.”
The Hungry Caterpillar
This is THE board book. You can find different versions of this book but our favorite is the one that pages grow in size along with the caterpillar’s diet. This is such a fun book for counting, identifying foods and just enjoying Eric Carle’s illustrations.
Llama Llama Red Pajama
At bedtime, a little llama worries after his mama tucks him in and says goodnight but then heads downstairs. This story, along with other books in the Llama, Llama series, are great at teaching a lesson through story and at kid level. These are books both adults and kids love to read.
Your local librarian is the perfect source for finding a new board book to fit their current interests and level of development!
