Helping LGBTQ+ Families Thrive with Modern Family Alliance | Kansas City MomCast Episode 84

Modern Family Alliance is a local organization focused on outreach and creating safe, affirming environments and connections amongst LGBTQ+ parents and their children. We are here today with Jennifer Wilson, local mom of 3 and the Executive Director. She is passionate about showcasing positive queer representation, ensuring that the next generation of parents feels seen, inspired, and supported. By fostering collaboration within the queer community, she is building a united front for advocacy, visibility, and collective strength.

Modern Family Alliance believes in the power of connection. Their network of LGBTQ+ parents offers mentorship, support, and advocacy, ensuring that all families have access to essential resources and community backing. Their initiatives include resource and referral support to provide guidance on adoption, parenting, legal matters, and more. They provide education and training that include workshops and educational programs for LGBTQ+ parents, professionals, and allies. Through promoting respect and visibility for LGBTQ+ families within the broader community, they work to advocate and increase awareness. Modern Family Alliance’s inclusive community events create spaces where families can connect, celebrate, and grow together.

Jennifer’s family embodies the simple truth that love and care define a family, not its structure. Beyond her organizational role, Jennifer plays an active part in queer community advocacy—testifying before lawmakers, forging supportive community connections, and standing firmly against legislation that threatens LGBTQ+ youth and families. She champions the right of queer families to thrive without shame or isolation.

We all want to cool off in the pool during hot summer days, but it’s important to make sure your children are safe around the water. Make sure they wear a life jacket anytime they are in a watercraft and small children and non-swimmers should also wear them anytime they are in or near water. Look for US Coast Guard approved versions for optimum safety.

Children’s Mercy Kansas City is built for kids. That’s why we have been taking care of the kids in the community for more than 125 years. Learn more.

Megan Coffey
Hi! I'm Megan and I host the Kansas City MomCast podcast! Chris and I are both K-Staters and have been married for 16 years- time flies! Our daughter, Peyton, is 11 and our son, Gage, is 8. In our home also resides our insane lab, two cats (one with PICA), and two guinea pigs. You can find me substitute teaching (former full time elementary teacher), doing live sales on Facebook for locally owned kids' resale store, KC Grow Co, reading informational and self-help texts, and listening to podcasts. I also love decluttering/organizing, spending time with friends over margaritas, thrifting, and staying up way too late to have peace and serenity. I love people and hearing their stories and look forward to connecting with KCMC readers and listeners!
