Tips for the Third Trimester of Pregnancy

This post is sponsored by AdventHealth.

The third trimester of pregnancy is all about preparation, not only for birth but for life after baby arrives.

Here are our best mom tips from veteran moms on your the third trimester.

1. Prioritize sleep

Sleep in the third trimester gets tricky — your mind might be racing, and it’s hard to find a comfortable sleeping position as your belly grows. But, you’re about to enter a whole other level of sleep deprivation so do whatever you can to make these next three months your sleeping in era!

2.  Review the details

You’ve likely been planning your whole pregnancy but now is the time to ensure you have checked all the boxes. Are all your maternity leave or short term disability forms submitted? Do you have coverage for any of your responsibilities at work or personal life so you can truly enjoy time with your baby? Do you know who is taking care of siblings when you head to the hospital? Your future tired self will appreciate you confirming the details now.

3.  Buy necessary items

You’re likely stocked on cute blankets and newborn onesies. But what about the boring supplies. Check your inventory for the following:

  • Infant health supplies (thermometer, medications, etc.)
  • Feeding supplies (pump parts and storage bags, bottles for formula)
  • Postpartum care (nipple cream, high-protein snacks, Tuck’s pads…trust us)

4. Go on a date with your partner

Life is about to change… for the better! But, your time to go on a date with your partner is going to get much more complicated. Pick your favorite restaurant (that won’t give you heartburn) and enjoy a leisurely date!

5. Finalize birth plans

Around 32 weeks, schedule a visit with your maternity navigator to discuss your birth preferences, ask questions, and finalize details. Now would also be a great time to make a trial run to the hospital so you know where to go, where to park and how long it takes to get there. If you’re planning to write a birth plan, download the AdventHealth template online, put your wishes in writing and review it with your care provider as well as share a copy with your maternity navigator. These small but important steps can ease stress and give you peace of mind heading into delivery day.
