Adjusting My Winter Bucket List

Normally this time of year, I would be busy making our family’s winter bucket list. Making lists of Christmas light displays, Santa visits, Black Friday shopping plans, and planning big family get-togethers to watch holiday movies, decorate cookies, and make Christmas crafts.

But of course this year…COVID-19 has other plans.

Our family has always taken our bucket lists and holiday traditions seriously. We love to make elaborate plans and do all the fun things that Kansas City has to offer. After the quarantine cancelled all of our birthday party plans, Easter Egg hunts, and basically our entire spring and summer, we are determined to make the best of the end of this crazy year.

We have had to readjust many of our normal traditions and instead have learned to find joy in the more simple things. Here are some of our favorite ways to still enjoy creating amazing family memories while staying safe during this time.

  • Family Movie Nights — Since staying home is the new cool thing to do, we make the most of it with family movie nights. Popcorn, candy, and lots of fun family favorite movies.
  • Park Time — While most of the larger parks may be full of kids, this has been a good opportunity to check out some of the less crowded smaller parks around Kansas City. Just make sure to bring some hand sanitizer for after playtime.
  • Family Fun Fridays — We pick a local business to order food from and spend the evening playing games and just enjoying time spent together.

Even though a lot of our favorite events have been cancelled this year and our winter bucket list will look different, there is still plenty of socially distanced fun to be had around Kansas City. From visiting the Kansas City Zoo to going on a Kansas City Scavenger Hunt to find some new favorites. Whatever you decide to do, just remember to wear your masks, keep your distance, and wash your hands.

Take time to enjoy this quiet season of making memories together with your family.
