Hispanic Heritage Month is celebrated every year, and there are many opportunities to honor this month in Kansas City.

Hispanic Heritage Month is celebrated in the United States from September 15 to October 15 acknowledges and honors the contributions, diverse cultures and histories of Hispanics and Hispanic descendants in the US. Kansas City joins this celebration, as many organizations put together family friendly events around the city. If you are Hispanic or Hispanic descent, this is a great opportunity to celebrate your culture with the community. And if you are not Hispanic, these events are for you as well.

Join the celebration, learn, enjoy, and get immersed in all the different cultures that will be showcased during this month. One thing is for sure, these events promise fun for all while supporting local organizations.

Hispanic Heritage Events in Kansas City

Fiesta Hispana

With entertainment for the whole family this celebration will have a children’s area with special activities, Hispanic food booths, retail booths, art exhibits, and musical show every day.

Johnson County Arts & Heritage Center

Join Johnson County Arts and Heritage Center as they celebrate the Hispanic community and their contributions.

Kansas City, Kansas Public Library

The Kansas City, Kansas Public Library is hosting a couple of events this month to join in the Hispanic Heritage celebration.

Hispanic and Latinx Heritage Month Bookmark Contest
Starting September 15, all interested contestants can pick up their bookmark template along with instructions at the main library. All the designs must be submitted for judging no later than October 13 at 5 p.m. This contest is ideal for children, teens, and adults.

Turner: Hispanic Heritage Crafts
Celebrate Hispanic Heritage month and make a craft while you learn. Some of the crafts children will be making are tissue paper llama, donkey pinata and fun fiesta owl.

Latino Arts Festival
The Latino Arts Festival will highlight the Chicano/Latino culture with many artists, entrepreneurs, food vendors, music, folkloric dance and cultural dance, poetry, and a lowrider show.

Kansas City RoyalsIsabella Royals

Join the Royals for their Hispanic Heritage Month celebration “Viva los Reales”.  Support the Royals while they play the Huston Astros, enjoy festivities and a custom Hispanic Heritage hat with the purchase of a theme ticket.

Mid-Continent Public Library

Mid-Contient Library has a full agenda when it comes to celebrate Hispanic Heritage month. These are some of the events you can participate in throughout the month.

Hispanic Heritage Book Discussion Series One
During the months of September, October, and November the library will be highlighting Latino authors and will have book discussions. There will be several discussion dates, books, and authors. This series is ideal for adults. For more information, click here.

Learn and Create Folk Art from Latin America
Mattie Rhodes Center will share the history and stories of pieces from their Hand in Hand art collection. Afterwards participants can create their own art in the style of bark paintings. This event is ideal for ages 8 and up. These events will be taking place on two dates. Check their website for more details.

Flour Power: A Kid’s History of the Tortilla
If you want your kids to learn about the history of the tortilla join Gene Chavez for a well-rounded lesson. After the lesson you can take part in a tortilla-rolling contest. Kids Create Art: Día de los Muertos
Celebrate Día de los Muertos by creating artwork associated with this unique cultural event. This event is ideal for ages 6 and up. These events will be taking place on several dates. Check their website for more details.

Calacas Revue
Celebrate Dia de los Muertos with this fun cabaret marionette puppet show with dancing skeletons, marigolds, and flames! This event is suggested for all ages. These events will be taking place on two dates. Check their website for more details.
