Hispanic Heritage Month is celebrated every year, and there are many opportunities to honor this month in Kansas City.
Hispanic Heritage Month is celebrated in the United States from September 15 to October 15 acknowledges and honors the contributions, diverse cultures and histories of Hispanics and Hispanic descendants in the US. Kansas City joins this celebration, as many organizations put together family friendly events around the city. If you are Hispanic or Hispanic descent, this is a great opportunity to celebrate your culture with the community. And if you are not Hispanic, these events are for you as well.

Fiesta Hispana
With entertainment for the whole family this celebration will have a children’s area with special activities, Hispanic food booths, retail booths, art exhibits, and musical show every day.

The Kansas City, Kansas Public Library is hosting a couple of events this month to join in the Hispanic Heritage celebration.
Hispanic and Latinx Heritage Month Bookmark Contest
Starting September 15, all interested contestants can pick up their bookmark template along with instructions at the main library. All the designs must be submitted for judging no later than October 13 at 5 p.m. This contest is ideal for children, teens, and adults.

Turner: Hispanic Heritage Crafts
Celebrate Hispanic Heritage month and make a craft while you learn. Some of the crafts children will be making are tissue paper llama, donkey pinata and fun fiesta owl.

Mattie Rhodes Center will share the history and stories of pieces from their Hand in Hand art collection. Afterwards participants can create their own art in the style of bark paintings. If you want your kids to learn about the history of the tortilla join Gene Chavez for a well-rounded lesson. After the lesson you can take part in a tortilla-rolling contest.
