Brewery Emperial

The gravel lot of picnic tables to fit large groups and the lit fire pits on cool nights always attract a crowd at Brewery Emperial. They’ve got great bar food, cocktails and a kids menu to keep everyone happy.

Char Bar

Char Bar is a family friendly establishment nestled in the Westport area. Not only do they have some of the best BBQ in town, they have an 8,000 square foot beer garden full of large scale yard games. Corn hole, bocce ball, ping pong and fire pits are among a few of the activities available.

Chicken N Pickle

Chicken & Pickle was such a hot spot in North KC they built a second location at Prairiefire. Activities for all ages, including pickleball, corn hole, Jenga, turf to run around and yard games. Their food is delicious, I highly recommend The Munchies section and the tostadas or quesadillas. The beverage menu has cocktails featuring local spirits, beer and wine. You can pre-reserve your experience for a large party or pickleball tournament. Checkout their event calendar for kids camps, live music, brunch and bingo. Check out the OP Event Calendar and NKC Event Calendar.

Clay and Fire

Sitting on top of a little hill in the Westside neighborhood, Clay and Fire makes you feel like you are anywhere but Kansas City. It’s Turkish inspired food, romantic setting and eclectic flare makes it a top choice for those seeking a night enjoying a meal under the stars.

Cultivate Cafe at Colonial Gardens

What’s better than eating soups, sandwiches and salads amongst a nursery full of seasonal flowers? The answer: NOTHING! Cultivate Cafe at Colonial Gardens is a gem of a bistro serving tasty food in an amazing surrounding. Your mood will undoubtedly be lifted by the time you leave.

Electric Park Garden Bar at J. Rieger & Co.

You won’t regret venturing to the east bottoms to experience J. Rieger & Co. Their walk up bar has refreshing cocktails, coladas or boozy snow cones. It is the perfect spot for a girls night out. If the kids must tag along, they also serve non-alcoholic snow cones or floats for the kids. Hogan’s Orange Soda is always a hit topped with vanilla ice cream! The Electric Park food truck has smash burgers, fries and mini pies (GF & Vegetarian options). In addition to food and drink, there are yard games, occasional music and a relaxed atmosphere.

Iron District

Open May through October, the Iron District just five minutes from downtown, is a hot spot when the weather is nice. Shop, eat, drink and lounge around while live bands play on the weekends.

The patio of JJ’s is grand, just like their menu and wine selections. It feels special, but never pretentious. Plan to spend a few hours because once you arrive, you won’t want to leave.

KC Bier Co.

KC Bier Co. has a large outdoor space for your large group to gather and hang out while the kids play. They are a very dog and kid friendly establishment in the heart of the Waldo area. Enjoy the Biergarten with communal table seating. You can bring in your own food to enjoy or order it from the Bierhalle. They have German sausages, pretzels and specials.

Marina 27 Steak & Seafood

Once Marina Grog and Galley, the remodeled Marina 27 is arguably the most beautiful place to eat outside in KC. Situated on the marina of Lake Lotawana, it’s a great place for a nice dinner out or Sunday brunch when the weather is nice.

Messenger Coffee

Messenger Coffee at 1624 Grand is a beautiful building, serving fresh roasted coffee and heavenly pastries from Ibis Bakery. The rooftop patio overlooks downtown, and is the perfect spot to start your day.

Trezo Mare

Hit up Trezo Mare for happy, brunch, lunch or dinner! The patio has an enormous amount of tables in order to take advantage of its ample space and serene ambiance. It is first come, first served, so arrive early to enjoy the views toward the downtown skyline.

Eating in the courtyard of Vivilore should be saved for a special occasion. The stately garden is lush and inviting, luring patrons to sit and sip wine all afternoon. Don’t forget to browse their antique store on the second floor before you leave!

Coach’s Bar and Grill

A casual atmosphere with a rooftop patio makes Coach’s a popular spot. People gather for wings, burgers and beers most afternoons.

French Market

If you want to feel like you are eating at true Parisian bistro, then head to the French Market. Enjoy any of the absolutely amazing selections and sit under their covered outdoor seating. A fan favorite is the classic crepe and lemon tart. Since it’s right in the heart of the Prairie Village shops, make sure to mosey around afterward to see what the local places are offering.

Lawrence Beer Co.

Lawrence Beer Co. is the perfect place to stop with your family on a day trip to Lawrence, Kan. They are located within walking distance from downtown, the Lawrence Loop bike and walking trails and Hobbs Park. They have a large indoor and outdoor patio space for large groups as well. There is green space for the kids to explore while the adults enjoy one of their local brews.

North Italia

One of my personal favorites in the area, North Italia’s food is always on point. I never turn down their chef’s board to share with the table! The outdoor seating is shaded and plentiful. There’s something for everyone to enjoy, ensuring everyone leaves full and happy.

Paros Estiatorio

Paros Estiatorio in Mission Farms is lovely. The greek food served is exceptional and the patio, with the umbrellas and white table cloths, will make you feel like you are experiencing something special. Hit it up for lunch and never pass up the Feta Fournou and Chicken Souvlaki.

Rye Leawood

If it’s good enough for Travis Kelce and Taylor Swift to eat there, it’s most definitely good enough for the rest of us! Rye Leawood offers a peaceful outdoor setting and some of the best fried chicken in town. Never sleep on the whipped goat cheese appetizer.

Rock & Brews

Rock & Brews is an all American joint located in Overland Park’s Prairiefire. They have some very enticing weekly specials including Happy Hour all day long on Monday’s, $5 Burger Tuesdays and Sunday Brunch, where Kids & Dogs Eat Free. The Menus are allergy friendly with accommodations for GF / V / DF options. Seating options are indoor and outdoor, always leaving your kids dancing with Rockin’ tunes. The decor is a topic for conversation, giving your kids a little music history lesson.

Strang Hall

Strang Hall is a fun spot in Downtown Overland Park with a food genre for all. The options range from pizza to sushi, check out all of the current kitchens here. Once you’ve ordered there is a turfed patio great for the kids to play on while the adults relax and enjoy a cocktail in an Adirondack chair. During the warmer months, be on the lookout for live music out on the patio. Check out upcoming events.

Vabene KC

Vabene is owned by the same group as Taco Republic, Gram and Dun (also a great patio restaurant!) and BRGR to name a few. This concept is casual Italian, serving great pasta dishes, salads and pizza. The kids menu has something for everyone and a shaded patio that will make everyone in your party want to stay for a while.

Verbena is set on top of Meadowbrook Park, and idyllic setting for families to play and then head for a special dinner.
