I know it is hard to believe with the beautiful unseasonably warm weather in KC but fall is officially here and it is one of the most fun times of the year to enjoy activities with your kiddos. With a giant pumpkin patch to explore, apples to pick, cider slushies to drink, a hayride to hop on, Johnson Farms embodies the fall aesthetic paparazzi taking moms like myself truly adore. And that’s just a tip of the iceberg when it comes to all that you can do during a day at Johnson Farms.
In addition to picking your own apples, you can now pick your own vegetables. Johnson Farms has 140 acres of beautiful farm land for all to enjoy! They have plentiful harvest from 50 acres of pumpkins and decorative produce, U-pick vegetable patch for your favorite autumn recipes. They are celebrating their 20th anniversary with the sunflower field, a bumper crop of apples including Red and Golden Delicious, Braeburn, Fuji, Granny Smith and Pink Lady from the 5,000 U-Pick apple tree orchard. And don’t get me started on their beautiful farm-grown garden mums available in seven colors! My biggest challenge every year is figuring out how many I can fit in the back of my SUV to decorate our fall porch!
When you’re done collecting your goods (apples, pumpkins, and veggies…Oh My!) make sure you grab a seat under the covered picnic area and indulge in a pumpkin donut (or two…I’m not judging) and slurp on an apple cider slushie. If you feel so inclined, feel free to share with your kids, too. Once you’re replenished, you’ll be ready to enjoy all the other amazing activities that the farm has to offer. The giant jumping pillow and a ride on the barrel train (free rides for little ones on weekends) are just a couple of our favorites.
If you’re worried about filling up your arms by grabbing a pumpkin from the field, Johnson Farms provides wheelbarrows and carts to load up your goods to free up those hands for taking advantage of all the fall photo ops around the farm. If pushing a wheelbarrow isn’t your thing, grab a pumpkin inside by the registers before heading out! Either way, you can’t leave without a pumpkin, maybe a mum or two, and perhaps a dozen donuts. Get your fall on, girl (or guy)!
If your kids beg to go back the moment you get home, then get a season pass, and enjoy the farm all fall long! Available online for $25.99 a person (ages 3 and up), the pass gives you unlimited access to the farm every day until Halloween! Bonus, if you get a season pass you do NOT have to make a reservation for your visits as they have been accounted for!
