It was one of those mornings where nothing was going right and the car ride to school was no different. Both kids were screaming in the back seat. This morning, it was about who had the larger lunch and whose banana was more yellow. I was on the verge of losing it!
That’s when my check engine and low gas lights went off – at the exact same time. The chime startled me. I immediately hit the breaks from being startled by the noise and flashing lights. Did I forget to change the oil? How can I forget to put gas in the car? Is my car OK? How much is this going to cost?
It got me thinking, I have been in survival mode the last two months leading up to summer break. I have been running on autopilot between work and all of the school stuff that is crammed into my kids schedule before school gets out. After school events, evening sports practice, weekend games, choir and band concerts, class parties; the list can go on and on. Not to mention just trying to be a good mom and wife and helping my husband manage our household. I have not stopped to relax. I naturally move 100 miles a minute and not slowing down is catching up with me. My check engine light is on!
In this moment, I realized that I am 100% ready for summer break! I know my kids need a break, too.
As a mom, I feel like the months between August and May are the most stressful. Between class projects, book reports, tests, parent/teacher conferences, class parties and sporting or club events and all of the other things that we have to cram into 24 hour days. I am ready to take a break from it all. I love that all of these things bring my kids joy, but momma needs a break!
I will recharge this summer, preferably by the pool with wine. I plan on relaxing in order to start it all over again in August and be the best I can be for my kids.
