Some of the first holiday events are tree lighting ceremonies. Most cities within the metro have their own celebrations, and it’s a great way to kick off the holiday season.

Mayor’s Christmas Tree Lighting at Crown Center

Briarcliff Holiday Lighting Celebration
November 9, 4 p.m. – 7 p.m.

Come celebrate with the Village this year at our Annual Holiday Lighting Ceremony and Fireworks Display! 

Legendary Tree Lighting
November 16, 5 p.m. – 7 p.m.

The Legendary Tree Lighting is back and brighter than ever with a new state-of-the-art synchronized music and light show, face painting, balloon art, mascot appearances and so much more! A 45-foot tree returns this year as the Legends Outlets’ main centerpiece, located at the center of the Civic Courtyard Fountain in front of AMC Legends 14 Movie Theater. Upgraded with a brand new LED light show that’s synchronized to music, the Christmas tree will continue to brighten spirits until early January 2024.

Overland Park Mayor’s Holiday Festival
November 15, 5 p.m. – 8 p.m.

Kick off the holiday season in Downtown Overland Park at this FREE community event! Join the Mayor as he lights the tree in Thompson Park at 6 p.m. Come listen to live music, get your picture with Santa, do some holiday shopping, visit with a Taylor Swift impersonator, and so much more during this festive evening!

Mayor’s Christmas Tree Lighting Festival – Downtown KCK
November 15, 4 p.m. – 8 p.m.

This traditional event will be held in person at Memorial Hall on Friday, November 15th from 4 p.m. – 8 p.m. We are so excited to welcome families back to downtown KCK and kick off the holiday season together. We’re excited to have free live entertainment, hot chocolate, Santa, Small business vendors, food trucks, games, and so much more.

Zona Rosa Holiday Lighting Celebration
November 23, 4 p.m. – 6 p.m.

Zona Rosa will kick off the 2024 holiday season with the annual lighting ceremony featuring the historic holiday crowns and brand-new never before seen Grand Christmas tree! The Grinch & Cindy Lou-Who will be hanging out for more photos opportunities (4 p.m. – 6 p.m.). Take an ‘elfie’ with instagram-worthy backdrops & make holiday memories

Excelsior Springs’ Lighted Christmas Parade
November 23, 6 p.m.

Join us for Excelsior Springs’ greatest parade! Get ready for a night of magic, lights, and holiday cheer as Downtown Excelsior Springs transforms for the Annual Lighted Christmas Parade! This year’s theme, “Christmas in the Kingdom” is a nod to our Kansas City Chiefs, bringing a royal red and gold sparkle to the festivities. Don’t miss this dazzling event that captures the holiday spirit and our community!

Sarah grew up in Manhattan, Kansas (Go Cats!), she moved to Minnesota where she met her husband, Shea. Realizing how much she hated snow in May, she convinced him to move to Kansas City in 2010. Together they have lived in Midtown, Waldo, the Plaza, and now Overland Park. Sarah is mom to four kids including a teenager and a toddler. She has her master’s in urban administration and is passionate about making Kansas City a more equitable and supportive community. In between the crazy, she likes to drink coffee, run, hike, travel as much as possible, and experience all things Kansas City!
